Jenny Cooper is the Director of Music at Lawrence Academy and the Music Director of the Concord Chorale. Jenny also serves as the Guest Choral Conductor for the New Hampshire Music Festival. She holds the degrees Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Southern Maine and B.A. in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Plymouth State University.
Jenny lead the 2020 NH All State Treble Choir and has taken her choirs to perform at Carnegie Hall, most recently in April, 2022 with the Lawrence Academy Singers. In addition to conducting and teaching, she works regularly as a mezzo-soprano soloist throughout northern New England. In the spring of 2013 she served as the director of the Plymouth State University Chamber Singers in preparation for performances of Mass in B minor by J.S. Bach. Since 2008 she has sung with the New Hampshire Master Chorale as both a soloist and choir member. She served on the NHMC board from 2009-2013. She is co-founder, with AJ Coppola, of the New Hampshire Master Choral Children's Chorus Festival. From 2011-2013 she was the adjunct voice teacher at the New Hampton School. From 2009-2012 she was the choral music teacher at Gould Academy in Bethel, ME. At Gould she founded Gould Academy Singers, an unauditioned school chorus dedicated to interdisciplinary music-making. In April, 2012, Gould Academy Singers performed as part of a festival choir at Carnegie Hall under conductor and composer, John Rutter. Jenny holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Plymouth State University where she was a member of PSU Chamber Singers, University Chorale, and was the student assistant to Dan Perkins, director of choral activities. She studied voice at Plymouth with mezzo soprano Eva Nagorka, mezzo soprano Janice Edwards, and soprano Kathleen Arecchi. Jenny taught at Phillips Exeter Academy as the Teaching Intern with director of choirs, Ryan Turner, and was the Assistant Music Director Intern for the Manchester Choral Society in 2008-2009. She also taught at the Putney School Summer Program in 2007, and she was choir director at Church of the Holy Spirit, Plymouth, NH in 2007-2008. She previously studied with soprano Jane Cormier, founder of Just Love to Sing!, and mezzo-soprano Carmen Balthrop at the Heifetz International Music Institute. Jenny lives in Groton, MA with her wife Lisa Cooper, their 3 sons, Charlie, William, and Oliver, and their dog, Kona. They spend their summers in Wolfeboro, NH, where Jenny grew up. |
